Serdang, March 16 – The Student Entrepreneurship Cooperative of Universiti Putra Malaysia (KOSISWA UPM BERHAD) today organised a School Holiday Program: Celik Duit specifically for school students on 16 March 2023 with the participation of 18 school students from year 1 to 6.
The programme was conducted with the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development and Graduate Employability (CEM) UPM and Agro Bank. Agro Bank has introduced the Wang Saku Book as a sign of the bank's support for Bank Negara Malaysia's (BNM) initiative.
The pocket money book introduced by BNM specifically for students to be used as a learning tool in inculcating a culture and smart personal money management habits.
During the programme, UPM STUDENTS conducted a "needs and wants" activity where the participants had to choose the goods whether the goods were necessary or wanted. In this activity, participants can identify the importance of a particular item in life and not purchase unnecessary items.
"I thank KOSISWA UPM for giving my children the opportunity to participate in this money literacy program. They are very happy to learn financial knowledge and the activities carried out". Mr. Zakky Yamanie said. He has sent his two children to participate in the program.
Director of CEM, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mass Hareeza Ali was also present at the opening of the program hoping that such initiatives can be continued. He said, "children today need to be exposed to financial management from an early age so that they are better at managing money".
"The knowledge of financial management at an early stage is an important point especially for the youth today. This is because they often face the challenges of managing their finances which leaves them trapped in the burden of debt at a young age," he added.
The half-day programme aims to raise awareness on financial management knowledge at a young age as well as to produce children who are good at shopping.
